When You Need a Little Christmas, Right This Very Minute (Inn at Christmas Place, Pigeon Forge, TN)

Christmas ranks as #1 on my favorite holidays list, so I may be just a tad biased.

Year round, the Inn at Christmas Place dangles spangles and sparkles and wreaths and teddy bears, and even has Santa (A singing Santa, no less!) From rafter to rails, everything has some sort of holiday loveliness hanging.

Inside the rooms, the theme continues. Keep in mind, this is not a Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo sort of overkill. There is fun and elegance without being exclusive or kitschy. The beds (super comfy) have sweet Christmas-themed pillows. The bathrooms have holly and pine. Even the TV stand has a tiny lighted tree on top! (In our room there was a handy sign pointing up to the OFF/ON switch, in case it was too much.)

Breakfast was included, and we've been down that road before. What passes for a breakfast in most places I'm sure some prisoners would turn up their noses. However, the Inn at Christmas Place opens its beautifully etched doors to reveal a sumptuous Christmas morning breakfast buffet.

They have rugelach, folks... (For those who don't know, rugelach is this small, plump Jewish pastry stuffed with jellied fruit and topped with squared sugar crystals - very, very tasty!

The standard fare - eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy - is not standard (certainly not for a free breakfast, either.) Try the thickly sliced ham for a lovely treat.

For those looking for more healthful fare, try the various granolas, fruit drinks (including a homemade tomato juice,) four kinds of coffee (including a Santa-inspired mellow one,) yogurts, fruits, and more.

Once we were done, Santa was waiting outside and snapped a few pictures under the gigantic downstairs Christmas tree (did I mention this was in mid-January, long after most places have packed away all holiday decorations and are sadly waiting on Valentines Day for business to pick up?)

We were only in town for one night, visiting a local farm, but we already decided to bring the family up within the month.

Final verdict: A definite do-over, and this time we'll bring more people!
